Getting about in Shetland

Connections within Shetland are excellent, with frequent car ferries to most of the outlying islands and a good road network.

Ferry services:
There is a good inter-island ferry service operated by Shetland Islands Council

Air services:
Inter-island air services to Fair Isle, Foula, Outer Skerries and Papa Stour) operate from Tingwall Airport (between Walls and Lerwick) by Direct Flight, (part of the Airtask Group).

Car hire:
To fully explore the islands, car hire is recommended if you are not bringing your own car. There are several car hire companies in Shetland.
