Getting about in Shetland

Connections within Shetland are excellent, with frequent car ferries to most of the outlying islands and a good road network.

Ferry services:
There is a good inter-island ferry service operated by Shetland Islands Council

Air services:
Shetland Islands Council provides inter-island air services which are operated under contract by Directflight Limited from Tingwall Airport.

Car hire:
To fully explore the islands, car hire is recommended if you are not bringing your own car. There are several car hire companies in Shetland.
